Photographs from Latinos in Milwaukee | September, 2006
Event honored photographer Robert Glick
When the Latino Historical Society of Wisconsin put out a call for items to include in a unique new book, the community responded wholeheartedly. In the span of just a few months, long-time members of Milwaukee's Hispanic community brought in hundreds of photographs, and dozens of personal interviews were conducted, yielding familiar stories and new revelations. The result was a book from renowned local history publishers Acadia Publishing entitled Latinos in Milwaukee. Twenty-five enlarged photographs from the book form the core of this exhibit, bringing viewers face-to-face with those who came before. Photographs of Latinos in Milwaukee provide a fascinating glimpse at one group's journey into American life. Prepared by Dr. Joseph Rodriguez, Associate Professor of History at UW-Milwaukee, and Dr. Walter Sava, Executive Director of the Latino Historical Society of Wisconsin, this book delved into topics such as politics, education, cultural activities, commerce, and religion.
